Shibas find themselves in need of rehoming for various reasons. Some are found wandering and are picked up by dog wardens. Some are handed in due to marriage breakups or the failing health of their owners. Yet others because they have proven to be too much of a handful for their owners, who perhaps did not fully research the requirements for owning such a strong minded little dog.
Please note: It is rare for puppies to be handed in to breed rescue and this service should not be considered a means of aquiring a puppy on the cheap.
For anyone finding that they need to rehome their shiba, please in the first instance, contact the breeder of your dog and give them the opportunity to either take back the dog, or help you to rehome it. It is my belief that as breeders we are responsible for any animal we bring into this world. This responsibility to last for the entire life of the dog.
Sadly, there are some breeders who choose not to take responsibility for dogs they have bred. They are only interested in selling puppies and have little care for the future of dogs they have bred. Please be sure to ask questions of any prospective breeder when thinking of buying a puppy and if you are not comfortable with the answers given...walk away.
